Horror Humor
If your idea of a great Friday evening is hunkering in at home with a bowl of popcorn and the latest horror movie, use your genre knowledge to create a unique costume. Put on an old t-shirt and glue bits of cereal to its front. Empty a cereal box and pierce it with a plastic knife. Apply black face paint around your eyes and smudges of red to your cheeks, and frizz your hair to create a wild look. You are now a cereal killer.
Chia Pet
These favorite plant pets can be the basis for a fun Halloween costume. Purchase an orange sweatsuit, and glue clumps of moss or fake leaves to both the shirt and pants. Tease your hair and cover it with temporary green color. Add orange make-up to your face and hands and use eyeliner to write Chia Pet on your arms.
Boxed In
Cardboard boxes can become many different costumes. When you cut leg and arm holes in a large cardboard box, wrap it in shiny paper and tie a large bow around your head, you’re magically transformed into a birthday or Christmas present. Add a large gift tag if desired.
Sweat Pants Pets
A set of sweats can become just about anything. Brown or black sweats can be turned into a dog or cat costume with the addition of a felt tail and spots. For dramatic appeal, hot-glue felt ears to a plastic headband and draw on whiskers and a black nose with an eyeliner pencil. For a larger animal, a pair of white sweats can be dotted with black spots. When worn with felt horns on a headband and a long, narrow tail, you become a cow.
Outlaw Poster
For a “most wanted” look, take a large piece of flat cardboard and stain it off-yellow to give it an antique appearance. Print the word Outlaw in an old Western font onto a piece of paper and glue the paper along the cardboard’s top. Print and glue a famous outlaw’s name and a phrase announcing $100 reward for capture dear or alive along the cardboard’s bottom. Cut out a face-sized hole in the middle of the cardboard; ensure that the cardboard fits snugly around your face. Secure ribbon to the back of the board to tie it to your head and dress in Western wear to announce your own notoriety.
